Pocket Nurse Structural and Roofing Repairs | Monaca, PA
In early 2022, a storm microburst generated high winds which damaged a facility in Monaca, PA
The facility was occupied by a company called Pocket Nurse, which provides medical related supplies to a variety of firms.
The storm not only damaged the roof system, but it also caused damage to some of the structural members supporting the roof.
Burchick was charged with assessing the extent of the damage and determining which members would require replacement.
Working with an engineering firm, Burchick developed a list of damaged structural components and then ordered replacement members necessary to complete the repairs. These members were mostly steel joists and associated bridging.
Once the new steel members were delivered, Burchick began the work by first constructing a protective platform beneath the existing roof structure. This protective scaffold would also serve as a work platform.
In addition, Burchick installed weather protection over the existing roof system. This protection allowed business operations to continue without further disruption. The protection also allowed Burchick to work through adverse weather conditions.
In the damaged areas, the steel and roof were carefully and incrementally removed and replaced immediately, to minimize any open-air intrusion of rainwater. The work included replacement of the steel joists, reconstruction fo the associated roofing, and replacement of the damaged insulation. The roof system was promptly sealed, and interior finishes and corresponding MEP services were restored.
Through careful planning, the down time to the operations of the facility was minimized, and disruptions to workflows of the tenant were virtually eliminated.
Burchick performed this work over a 5 month period beginning in March 2022, and the project was completed in July of 2022.
