TILT-UP PROJECTS

As a result of a prior relationship, Burchick was invited to participate in a project under a joint-venture type relationship. Burchick had successfully served as a general contractor on multiple concrete tilt-up panel projects.

Because of this relationship, Burchick was approached to complete a concrete tilt-up panel project on an aggressive schedule for completion, prior to the onset of winter weather.

In August 2022, Burchick began discussions to plan and coordinate the fabrication and erection of a concrete tilt-up panel project that included approximately 100,000sf of slab space.

Given the size of the building, and the required heights of the eaves, Burchick created a plan to cast 52 individual panels to complete the exterior wall construction for this project.

The optimal panel sizes were developed to be 30’ wide x 37’ high x 7-1/2” in thickness. Through careful planning, panel layouts were developed to allow for ease of both fabrication and erection. Some of the panels had to be “stack” cast to allow all panels to be fabricated on top of each other on the building slab.

These panels included the use of formliner for specialty appearance, embeds, structural lifting lugs, bracing embeds, and rustication strips.

Burchick started actual panel fabrication on September 1, 2022. By late October, Burchick had formed and cast all 52 panels. By the end of October 2022, all 52 panels had been formed, placed, stripped, prepped, and erected in place, including leveling and plumbing.

The panel to slab connection was accomplished using a welded connection between steel embeds placed in both the panels and the footings.

As part of the finishing process, Burchick rubbed all concrete surfaces and prepared all concrete panels for painting. In addition, all the tilt-up panels were fully grouted between the base of panel and the concrete footing to provide a completely sealed and flush bearing surface.

Burchick successfully completed this effort in accordance with the schedule requirements and in advance of winter weather conditions.

This project adds to the portfolio of tilt-up concrete panel construction projects that Burchick Construction has completed since 2001.
