Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Main Campus in Oakland – Entrance Upgrades and Modifications
Owner  Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
Architect  Elagin Architecture
Cost $1,802,500

Burchick Construction was awarded a contract in mid 2022 to begin rework and restoration of the main entrance to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Main Facility in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, PA.

This work is somewhat of an historical renovation, as many structural and architectural elements had to be removed, salvaged, reworked, modified, and set back into place.  These elements included the large 130 year old sandstone and granite pieces that comprised the stair treads, landings, and foundation/cheek walls that comprise the main entrance steps.

Burchick’s scope also included an assortment of other features at the main entrance such as new oak sidelights, transoms, and doors into the main library space.

A new handicapped accessible elevator is being installed at the main entrance to allow easy access from ground level up and into the main library floor level.  This work includes a new lower level elevator entrance that is ADA compliant.

In addition, new exposed aggregate sidewalks were constructed to enhance the monumental stair entrance.

In addition to the architectural and structural features, new landscaping will also be provided at the main entrance which includes trees, bushes, and various forms of ground cover.

Work on this project was completed in the 2nd quarter of 2023.
