WEST GREENE SCHOOL DISTRICT WEST GREENE ELEMENTARY CENTER RETAINING WALL RECONSTRUCTION  |  Waynesburg, PA
Owner  West Greene School District
Architect  Michael Baker Jr., Inc.
Cost $5,600,000

Due to a catastrophic retaining wall failure, the main goal of the project was to remove the existing failed retaining wall and replace it with a new, 760 lf, poured in place concrete cantilevered retaining wall. In order for the work to begin, an upper rock anchor wall was installed to prevent any future landslides. The site was very unstable and extreme caution needed to be taken in order to not provoke additional earth movement. Once the site was stabilized, deconstruction of the existing wall began.

The new retaining wall was poured in place concrete with an architectural formliner to give the look of natural stone. Colored concrete was also used to blend the wall in with the natural environment. This project was on a very tight schedule, being that the wall had to be completed before the start of the school year. Due to sequencing and scheduling, close coordination between all trades was paramount.
