                 JSA, Pittsburgh, PA
Cost $2,530,000

As part of the new construction for the University of Pittsburgh - Biomedical Science Tower #3, Burchick Construction completed the concrete sitework and plaza upgrades.  Working directly in the busy and congested 5th Avenue Oakland corridor, Burchick Construction completed the work while maintaining both pedestrian and vehicular traffic on adjacent sidewalks and roadways.

The work included extensive upgrades to underground utilities including water, steam, and storm sewer lines.  Given the sensitive nature of operations and research within the building, perimeter security provisions were also included in Burchick’s contract.  These provisions included heavy impact resistant pipe/precast concrete bollards, reinforced concrete planters and retaining walls, “pop-up” steel plated security barriers, and a sophisticated motor operated series of vehicular entrance gates.

Special irrigation and drainage systems were integrated into the landscaping planters, which housed a unique blend of ground cover, bushes, and trees.  Granite panels, pavers, and curbing were used to clad and highlight many features of the sidewalk and plaza areas.

Burchick Construction worked through the winter season to complete the BST 3 Plaza contract.  All work was completed in accordance with the University of Pittsburgh’s schedule requirements.
