Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Local #1 Union Hall

Contract Value: $877,700

Architect: EDGE Studio

Burchick began discussions with Pittsburgh Fire Fighters (PFF) Local #1 by preparing several budgets for their review based on a variety of scopes. These discussions evolved into Burchick working with PFF to complete this project under a Design-Build format based on predetermined scopes with a strict budget.

The existing facility was formerly the home to the Old American Hungarian Social Club. Due to ongoing water intrusion problems, the basement was completely gutted and new waterproofing was provided at the exterior walls. The basement was then renovated to provide new administrative offices and conference rooms.

A new handicapped lift was installed at the front entrance to upgrade the facility to current ADA accessibility standards.

The existing kitchen was modified to include a new kitchenette area. The stage in the main hall was renovated with the addition of new millwork and trim. The hardwood floors in the main assembly hall and stage were sanded and refinished. The perimeter walls in the main hall were repainted, and one wall was redecorated to depict scenes of the fire fighters in action.

New mechanical and electrical systems were installed throughout the building.

All other wall and floor finishes were also refurbished and upgraded.

New acoustical tile ceilings and lighting were installed in the main Assembly Room and the ancillary areas.

The perimeter site fencing was also replaced and upgraded to provide security for the facility.

The restoration of an historic Hungarian Social Club building created a new home for Pittsburgh Fire

Fighters Local #1 in Hazelwood, within the Pittsburgh City limits.
